FICTION

Born of Night / Sherrilyn Kenyon
EB, FIC
Kenyon’s re-released original novel is a dark, gritty and hopeful futuristic romance. The world they live in is harsh and cruel, but you can’t help rooting for both main characters.
(Jennie from CHE)

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao / Junot Diaz
BCD, EB, FIC, LT
I loved the narrative style with its almost constant interplay of RPG, science fiction and Dominican historical references. For what seemed at first a rather light read, it became complex and engaging while I sought to balance understanding these references, guessing at the Spanish from context, and following the story. It is definitely a book I would like to re-read some day.
(Elizabeth Campion, St. Clair Shores Librarian)

The Brutal Telling / Louise Penny
BCD, FIC, LT
This mystery is fifth in a fabulous series which take place in a small Quebec village. Penny builds strong supporting characters surrounding the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache.
(Ruth from SCS)

Bulletproof Mascara: A Novel / Bethany Maines
BCD, FIC, PL
A debut novel about a young woman who gets a job at a cosmetics company, only to find out that it doubles as a top-secret all-woman espionage agency. A fast, fun, fantasy-fulfilling read!
(Alice from SHL)

The title promises and delivers in this 12th Dresden Files novel. Butcher giveth and taketh away from wizard Harry, and you, too, will be screaming for 2011’s case file by the end.

Cloud & Ashes: Three Winter Tales / Greer Gilman
MeLCat
After reading Gilman’s Moonwise in 1991, I thought I could scarcely wait for another of her endeavors. I had to wait nearly twenty years but I have been rewarded with something magical to savor. Cloud & Ashes consists of three interwoven tales which tap into our ancient memory and send us spiraling within.
