Look especially to “Guests of the Nation” and “A Bachelor Story”. (Cory from CLL) Eden Springs: A Novella / Laura Kasischke FIC This short novel about life in Benton Harbor, Michigan’s House of David colony is centered on a young girl’s curiosity with leader Benjamin Purnell’s penchant for young women. Interwoven with photographs, newspaper clippings and documents, the scandal unfolds, with a hidden grave surrounded by dark secrets leading to the collapse of the movement. This is true crime set in a historical novel! (Cindy from SCS) Electricity / Ray Robinson MeLCat This is an accurate and honest depiction of living with epilepsy, without making the disorder the sole focus of the plot. Lily is tough and uncompromising—I applaud her nerve. (Barb from SCS) Envy the Night / Michael Koryta FIC, LT This is a suspense novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat for the whole book. (Kathy from ROG) Godmother / Carolyn Turgeon FIC This story has a different perspective on the Cinderella story. The beautiful prose and many passages make it worth reading over and over again. (Barb from SCS)		FICTION The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society / Mary Ann Shaffer BCD, EB, FIC, LT Historical fiction at its finest, this is a novel that men and women will both enjoy equally but perhaps for different reasons. It brings alive the post WWII era in a personal way through letters and diary entries. It makes you want to bake a potato peel pie and have the gang over for a book talk! (Dale Parus from HPW) Half Broke Horses / Jeannette Walls BCD, FIC, LT, PL This is a fantastic biographical novel. (Mary from TPL) The Heart is a Lonely Hunter / Carson McCullers BCD, FIC, LT While Carson McCullers was very young when this was written, her sensitivity and maturity are beyond her years. (Cory from CLL) The Help / Kathryn Stockett BCD, EB, FIC, LT This book is about the treatment of black women servants by modern day white women in the south. A young white woman dedicates herself to writing about the plight of the servants, and becomes involved in describing the insensitive mistreatment of these black women. There is risk for everyone involved in the book. (Lillian, clerk at CLL) This title has a long hold list but it is so worth the wait! Great characterizations; wonderful first novel!
